I was wondering, why are we, or you personally, doing this or in on this whole idea? Are we doing this purely for fun and hobby, or is it something you think we should consider trying to profit from and kinda make into an actual brand and business?
I like the hobby of it and am fine if it ends there, but I would also LOOOVE to be able to make GG stuff, or gaming-related content a career. I think the best route would be to start it as more of a hobby thing, let it grow naturally and once we can and need to, start focusing a bit on profiting. Not just trying to make money off GG either, but if we pulled in enough to where some of us could make this our job, it'd make the quality that much better. Not to mention the production value would go up if we had money to put back into new ideas.
Anyway, this is all obviously theoretical right now, but I think it wouldn't hurt to discuss and at least figure out and articulate what we're all looking to get out of this endeavor. Nothing too serious at this point as I think it's clearly for fun right now, but if we were all on the same page, or at least knew each others' pages, we'd be better off, I think.

I was thinking the same as you, start out small, just for fun, but grow naturally depending on success/popularity

i would love to make money doing something gaming related! but i don't want to alienate the community by pulling them into something they don't want. It seems like many of us (myself included) have a background in creative writing, general artiness, and gaming which could potentially come together in a money making way. If it was the 90s we could totally make a magazine! as is, i'm down for whatever

I want to work in gaming eventually. I'm still in college, but that's my goal. 18 months!! Gaming is what I'm passionate about, so I'm interested in seeing where this could go. :-)

There's too many of us to make it a true business model in where everyone gets a wage that would sustain each of us however I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

there's almost 1500 in the facebook group, but not all of them would be staff level. if we were to take things in that direction

A business being made from this community would be great, there are more than enough people to contribute. It just requires people that are willing and ready to set the plan in motion.
I would be happy to help in anyway I can.

When the idea of YouTube had been originally tossed around I started thinking, "what would happen 'if' there were a small profit to be made?"
I thought right away about investing it back into the group, primarily through giveaways via the humble bundle.
Members of the community get new games to make new footage with and we have a GRG contribution to charity.
Win - win, right?

But one question comes to mind.
If this becomes a 'brand' it's Scott's intellectual property and therefore he would be the primary owner, right?

I guess that's a discussion in itself.
Everyone involved needs to decide what direction they want to go, and what they want to offer. Then you figure out how to do it.

Yeah, the profit would be too small to distribute between ourselves. It would be much better used by reinvesting back into the channel. Also, the YouTube channel wouldn't be Scott's intellectual property, because I doubt he would create it himself.

I don't think creating a facebook group grants any intellectual property rights

But trying to create a 'brand' using the name that he created for the group can cause issues as he technically is the creator of said brand.

I really don't think he'd care though unless it got to the point where it was like thousands in ad revenue.
Just something to keep in mind.
I asked him about the YouTube channel before and he said it was cool.
